9-Year-Old Boy Dies After Arm Trapped in Pool Drain at Pension Villa in Gapyeong

A tragic accident occurred at a private pool villa in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province, where a 9-year-old boy lost his life after his arm became trapped in a swimming pool drain, police said on Sunday.

According to police and fire authorities, the child was found unconscious at around 8:35 p.m. on Saturday at a kids-friendly pool villa located in Jojong-myeon, Gapyeong County.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) while transporting the boy to a hospital. Despite medical efforts, he was later pronounced dead.

Investigators determined that the boy’s arm had become stuck in the pool’s drainage outlet. At the time he was found, the water depth was approximately 55 centimeters.

Police are currently investigating the exact cause of the accident, including whether proper safety measures and facility management standards were in place at the pool.

Authorities stated that the investigation will focus on the pool’s drainage structure, safety equipment, and overall supervision at the time of the incident.
