The Korea Railroad Corporation (Korail) announced on December 29 the launch of “Korail Pass Plus,” an integrated transportation pass designed exclusively for foreign visitors.
Korail Pass Plus combines the existing Korail Pass—an unlimited rail travel pass for foreign travelers that allows unrestricted use of all Korail-operated trains, including KTX, for a fixed period—with a prepaid public transportation card that can be used on subways and buses.
Foreign travelers can purchase the Korail Pass by selecting a pass duration ranging from two to five days via the Korail website or at railway stations. By paying an additional fee, users can activate the public transportation card function. After recharging the card, it can be used on subways and buses nationwide, as well as for payments at offline retail locations such as convenience stores.
To apply for the public transportation service, users must visit the Korail Pass Plus website, enter their purchased Korail Pass number, and submit an application. The physical card can be collected from dedicated kiosks installed at major KTX stations, including Incheon International Airport, Seoul Station, Busan Station, Dongdaegu Station, and Daejeon Station.
Korail also noted that it is expanding services for foreign customers by operating multilingual websites in seven languages and installing new automated ticket machines at stations nationwide. These machines support multiple language options, overseas credit card payments, and simplified payment methods.
A Korail official stated that the product was designed to allow foreign visitors to travel across South Korea using trains, subways, and buses with a single card, adding that the card was also produced as a commemorative item reflecting the growing global interest in Korean culture.
